All My Own Fault

YouTube player

Text and Lyrics Ellen Pels

The Fox is enjoying what he sees
A lovely Lamb with a gorgeous fleece
You’re a tasty bit, he states
Licking his chops he waits

Will you dance with me, Fox pries
I have a sore hoof Lamb shyly lies
Her friend jumps in to bail her
Thank goodness, she’s my savior

It is probably all my own fault
I am sure it is all my own fault
It must be all my own fault
Is it all my own fault?

Secretly Fox touches her pelt
Expecting that she’ll probably melt
Into his arms he’ll take her
Trusting he’s a heartbreaker

The other lambs and sheep look on
Not daring to face Fox head on
Terrified of Fox’s chomp
He’ll drown them in the swamp

It is probably all my own fault
I am sure it is all my own fault
It must be all my own fault
Is it all my own fault?

I froze
I couldn’t speak up
Didn’t want to cause a scene
Knew not to embarras us
There was too much at stake
I was afraid
I am still afraid

Solo AA

The Lamb cried out with a sonorous scream
Clearly stating her disesteem
Rousing the flock into action
Creating a welcome distraction

It is probably all my own fault
I am sure it is all my own fault
It must be all my own fault
Is it all my own fault?

Money

Lyrics: Ellen Pels

I used to be so affluent
I was quite far from broke
I could pay for everything
Spending was a joke
A golden handshake here or there
Never gave me trouble
All the bills paid easily
I’d sometimes even tip them double

Honey, I’m out of pocket
Baby, I’ve got no dough
Making things run smoothly
Is not my status quo
Maybe I’ll go to Wall Street
And hope for a stroke of luck
Surely things will get better
So I can make a buck

Things in life are full of woe
For I’ve run out of savings
A lubricant like currency
Or property or earnings
Would make my life so beautiful
And cushiony and easy
I’m dreaming of the days to come
When bread will make things breezy

Honey, I’m out of pocket
Baby, I’ve got no dough
Making things run smoothly
Is not my status quo
Maybe I’ll go to Wall Street
And hope for a stroke of luck
Surely things will get better
So I can make a buck

My dignity
My well run life
With everything you took

It dissapered
When you ran off
With all my dosh you crook

Honey, I’m out of pocket
Baby, I’ve got no dough
Making things run smoothly
Is not my status quo
Maybe I’ll go to Wall Street
And hope for a stroke of luck
Surely things will get better
So I can make a buck

Real Women

YouTube player

Tekst: Ellen Pels

As time goes by we all grow old
Oh, the audacity
In spite of everything we’re told
‘Bout ageing gracefully

Standards seem to vary
Between me and all the men
Am I old and wrinkly
Must never be seen again

Where are all of the vanguards
Trailblazing for me
Nip and tuck and botox
Is all that I can I see

Where have all the real women gone?
Where are my examples
Whom can I look up to
I want to see real women on TV
Real Women, Real Women

Saggy bottoms, baggy eyes
Wonky teeth and all
Mummy tummies, hamster cheeks
Go bathe in retinol

All the men that I can see
Clearly do not care
They don’t have a sell-by date
Even without hair

Where have all the real women gone?
Where are my examples
Whom can I look up to
I want to see real women on TV
Real Women, Real Women

My daughter thinks that she’s no good
With her crooked nose
The doctor tells her that she needs
An op for all her woes

What is it we’re telling her
That she needs to be
Looking quite unnatural
For sensuality

Where have all the real women gone?
Where are my examples
Whom can I look up to
I want to see real women on TV
Real Women, Real Women, Real

Stuck With You

YouTube player

Lyrics: Ellen Pels

The light is coming out outside
The world is waking up
I’m still grabbing forty winks
But it seems I’ve been one upped

So instead I will make better plans
Like writing this for you
To let you know for ever more
Whom it is I will pursue

It seems you’re stuck with me
My moods
My habits
My pain

It seems I’m stuck with you
Your laughter
Your sunshine
My gain

This can’t be a surprise for you
It’s been going on for years
You’ll simply have to get used to
This state of affairs

As we work the whole day through
Can’t wait till you get home
Stories to be shared with you
Can you see how I have grown

It seems you’re stuck with me
My moods
My habits
My pain

It seems I’m stuck with you
Your laughter
Your sunshine
My gain

There’s no getting rid of me
No backsies, no returns
It’s you who I belong to
It’s you for whom I yearn

Welcome me into your arms
Let me peek inside your head
Whats been going on with you
And is it time for bed

I’m glad you’re stuck with me
My smile
My honey
My love

I’m glad I’m stuck with you
Your kindness
Your presence
My love

This Song Is For You

Lyrics and Music: Ellen Pels, Tony Hoyting

YouTube player

To all of you who need a dedication
I should write about my endless fascination
My besties, my brother
My colleagues, my mother
The ones that I adore
You know that I will love you for ever more
You know that I will love you for ever more

This song is for you
My friend, my loved one, my foe
I sing of my endearment or my woe
We never know how long it will be
Before that bus comes along
So in the meantime
This is your song

To those of you who are a constant nuisance
To those with whom I always have a grievance
My bully, my traitor
My sniper, my hater
The ones that I despise
Thanks for all the lessons that made me wise
Thanks for all the lessons that made me wise

This song is for you
My friend, my loved one, my foe
I sing of my endearment or my woe
We never know how long it will be
Before that bus comes along
So in the meantime
This is your song

To those of you I’ve cherished in the past
To those with whom the friendship didn’t last
The dead and the dying
For whom I keep crying
The ones I’ll always miss
The memory of you fills me with bliss
The memory of you fills me with bliss

This song is for you
My friend, my loved one, my foe
I sing of my endearment or my woe
We never know how long it will be
Before that bus comes along
So in the meantime
This is your song

Why is it a need

YouTube player

Lyrics and music: Ellen Pels

Why is it a need to know my heart
A want to feel enlightened and sure
Feeding my ego like a hungry lion
Building problems that can not reassure
Why is it a need to know my heart

Why is it a need to heal my Soul
To see the many shades of red
Discover all the shapes that green comes in
Knowing I have often been misled
Why is it a need to heal my Soul

All the unfounded beliefs in my mind
All the thought I don’t police
All the ideas that have rendered me blind
Keep me from being at peace
Keep me from being at peace

Why is it a need to shine my light
I crave the foolish moon to feel alive
Thinking I’m a victim of fortune and fate
Knowing what it’s for is how I thrive
Why is it a need to shine my light

Notre Dame

YouTube player

The museum rang
To ask for some help
Could we loan them a painting
Which one shall we share
Which one from the vault
Which one would be the most entertaining
So we sent our driver
Along with the poolboy
For us it would be too draining
And we shared our treasure
For us it’s a pleasure
What we offer is truly amazing

Think of the good that we do for our globe
Notice how we make a difference
Where we go we generate hope
And receive our well-deserved reverence
Think of the good that we do for our globe

We all held our breath
As she went down in flames
The cathedral collapsed in ruins
Our hearts were heavy
Our minds were sad
Thankfully no loss of humans
But the treasures were burnt
And the relics destroyed
It was almost our undoing
So we donated money
Were generous and caring
This was the right thing to be doing

Think of the good that we do for our globe
Notice how we make a difference
Where we go we generate hope
And receive our well-deserved reverence
Think of the good that we do for our globe

We cannot see the dead and the dying
The hungry, the ill and the poor
Plastic soup, mass extinction
Severe air pollution
We can’t be everyone’s saviour
We won’t be everyone’s saviour

Think of the good that we do for our globe
Notice how we make a difference
Where we go we generate hope
And receive our well-deserved reverence
Think of the good that we do for our globe

Scar

YouTube player

She has a scar
But it’s hidden from plain sight
Only her nearest and dearest know it’s there
She likes to scratch it open
As a reminder of her plight
Lest she could ever forget how she cared

Stop scratching, stop hurting
It’s okay
He’s in your heart
Don’t let this pain and this sorrow
Tear you apart

Then, once it heals
And she grants herself some more
Can she see the treasures lying below
Does she know she grew
That she’s wiser than before
Has she noticed who is running the show

Stop scratching, stop hurting
It’s okay
He’s in your heart
Don’t let this pain and this sorrow
Tear you apart

Look up to the light
The sun has always shone
Allow yourself to breathe
Know that love is never gone

Stop scratching, stop hurting
It’s okay
He’s in your heart
Don’t let this pain and this sorrow
Tear you apart

Look up to the light
The sun has always shone
Allow yourself to breathe
Know that love is never gone

Love is never gone

Spring

YouTube player

I love that gentle breeze that sighs on this fine day
It blows right through the trees and cools along the way
Scents of springtime a lovely bouquet
Sweet sunrays upon my skin awaken me today

It feels like spring
What will love bring
You are everything

In the air I hear the buzzing of the bees
Birds are building nests that hide among the leaves
See the colours of the flowers and the trees
As I lie here in the grass I’m totally at ease

It feels like spring
What will love bring
You are everything

I see a dark cloud
Rolling in from afar
I know I may drown
And tell you au revoir
Storm and wind and rain
Eliminate the drought
But will it wash me out
Leave me alone again

Fresh green grass is growing here beside the road
All the songs I hear sound like they’re in spring-mode
We venture outside suitably unclothed
I love to watch this season suddenly explode

It feels like spring
What will love bring
You are everything

Tungsten Steel

YouTube player

Text and Music: Ellen Pels, Bas Kunnen, Rens de Ronde

When it’s raining outside
And I’m feeling kind of blue
All I need to do
Is set my mind to you

That’s when the sun comes out
And the birds begin to sing
I can’t help myself but bring
You flowers and a ring

It’s just a simple tune
But made of tungsten steel
To remind you how I feel
I’ll sing it to the moon

It’s just a simple tune
But made of tungsten steel
To remind you how I feel
I’ll sing it to the moon

But I’m flat broke again
So instead I wrote this score
I promise to treasure and adore
And to love you for ever more

It’s just a simple tune
But made of tungsten steel
To remind you how I feel
I’ll sing it to the moon

To the moon
